Alpine and Vapor | 2013 Jeep® Grand Cherokee SRT8 Special Editions
Performance
Powering the 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee is the 6.4-liter HEMI® V-8 with Fuel Saver Technology that delivers 470 horsepower and 465 lb.-ft. of torque. The SRT8 delivers fuel efficiency and an extended range of 450 miles on one tank of gas, with blazing standing starts and improved straight-line performance.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is the best-handling Jeep vehicle ever, with its SRT-tuned, adaptive damping suspension managed by the Jeep Selec-Track system, which interacts with different systems to tune the dynamics of the vehicle. Choose among five dynamic modes for specific driving conditions.
Capability
It’s not a Jeep vehicle if it’s not capable. The standard Jeep Quadra-Trac SRT active on-demand four-wheel-drive transfer case does a few things. It uses sensor input to take corrective action at the earliest detection of tire slip, allowing the Jeep 4×4 system to transfer up to 100% of available torque to one rear wheel. The transfer case also enhances handling by proportioning torque between the front and rear axles.
Other features include five-spoke, 20-inch forged aluminum wheels and a trailer tow rating of 5,000 lbs.
Luxury
Building off of the Jeep Grand Cherokee’s refined, luxurious interior, the SRT8 interior features race-inspired technology and SRT-exclusive appointments. Drivers assume the role of racer with a leather-wrapped steering wheel with a satin chrome rim section and paddle-shift controls on both sides. Nappa leather and suede seats, sculpted bolsters, and contrast stitching enhance the race-inspired luxury.
Drivers receive instant feedback thanks to the SRT-exclusive Performance Pages, showing horsepower, torque, 0-60 time, G-forces, expanded engine information, and more.
The 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is the most powerful Jeep vehicle ever, the best-performing Jeep vehicle ever, and the best-handling Jeep vehicle ever. It comes with standard luxury, race-inspired appointments, and exclusive SRT features. And with the new Alpine and Vapor special edition models, the 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 truly is The Ultimate Performance SUV. Visit Jeep.com to schedule a test drive at a Jeep dealership near you.

A Weekend on Woodward Avenue – Part One
That’s just what happens every third Saturday in August, when die-hard enthusiasts and curious spectators alike travel to Michigan from across the country and even from the around world to show off their sweet rides and generally revel in the glory that is the American-made classic car.
Coming out in particularly strong numbers every year are legions of Chrysler fans, the envy of all in attendance, with their meticulously maintained vintage Chrysler vehicles–exactly the kind found in this recent blog post. And don’t think we don’t notice or appreciate the loyalty. As enthusiasts ourselves, we love to see a well-cared-for car, especially when it’s one that rolled off our assembly lines maybe five years ago, maybe even 50 years before that.
This year, the Chrysler team will be enjoying the show from the southwest corner of Woodward Avenue and 13 Mile. Be sure to stop by and see us. In addition to showing cars, trucks, and Jeep® brand vehicles from across the entire Chrysler Group LLC lineup, we will have some very cool Chrysler-specific vehicles on display, including the special edition Chrysler 300 Mopar® ’12. You won’t want to miss it.

Three Chrysler Group Vehicles Earn Honors From Autobytel and AutoPacific
“Winning awards for Jeep and Dodge vehicles based on customer feedback is very gratifying,” said Doug Betts, Senior Vice President – Quality, Chrysler Group. “Recognition by the customers proves we take consumer input very seriously in all the vehicles we design and build at Chrysler.”
The Ideal Vehicle Awards are based on owner ratings of 15 key attributes of their 2012 vehicles after 90 days of ownership. Measures evaluated by customers include power and acceleration, ride and handling, interior roominess and cargo space. More than 75,000 vehicle owners were surveyed by AutoPacific and were asked if they would change characteristics of their vehicles.
Praised for its smoothness on-road, the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee claimed top honors in the Mid-Size SUV category. Jeep Grand Cherokee is the most-awarded SUV ever and delivers premium on-road performance while maintaining the Jeep brand’s legendary four-wheel-drive, torque-on-demand two-speed transfer case and towing capability. It offers a driving range of more than 550 miles, superb on-road ride and handling, a world-class interior cabin, more than 45 safety and security features, and a variety of advanced technology features.
Contributing to Grand Cherokee’s class-leading capability is the combination of Jeep’s Quadra-Lift™ air suspension system and the Jeep Selec-Terrain™ traction control system that lets customers choose the 4x4 setting for the optimum driving experience on all terrains. The 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee is available with three 4x4 systems, and with either a 290 horsepower Pentastar 3.6-liter V-6 or an available 360 horsepower 5.7-liter V-8 engine.
According to owners, the 2012 Dodge Charger is the Ideal Large Car. Approximately 90 percent or more of Charger owners rated the Charger’s exterior size, passenger roominess, cargo space, ride and handling and ease of getting in and out of the vehicle as ideal. A great majority of owners, 80 percent or more, also appreciate the Charger’s interior lighting, driver’s seat comfort, tires, interior storage compartments and safety features.
In addition to its iconic Dodge styling and spacious, finely crafted, easy to access interior, the Dodge Charger offers performance that is unmatched in its class. Charger features the award-winning Pentastar 3.6-liter V-6 engine with an available eight-speed transmission that delivers the ultimate combination of power and fuel efficiency with 292 horsepower and up to 31 miles per gallon. It also features the available 370 horsepower 5.7 HEMI® V-8 engine.
The 2012 Dodge Challenger, which took top honors as the Ideal Vehicle for Sporty Cars, delivers more of what enthusiasts want — a more powerful and efficient engine lineup, maximum grip with a performance suspension design and athletic styling — all executed with quality and precision. It’s unlike any other car in the way that it allows customers to customize their classic American muscle car.
The 2012 Dodge Challenger combines world-class ride, refinement and braking performance with more power and new track-tuned suspensions to deliver a thrilling driving experience. With its award-winning 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine producing 305 horsepower — 55 more horsepower than the engine it replaced — the 2012 Dodge Challenger SXT is the most powerful, refined and technologically advanced entry-level Challenger ever. And to top it off, it gets 27 mpg on the highway and comfortably seats five. Challenger R/T takes things to all-new heights with a 375 horsepower 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 with six-speed manual or five-speed automatic and available paddle shifters.

Chrysler Group Moves Into the Third Dimension
Today, at the Center for Automotive Research Management Briefing Seminars in Traverse City, Mich., Chrysler Group's Vice President and Head of NAFTA Powertrain Operations and Global Powertrain Manufacturing Engineering Brian Harlow announced an additional manufacturing process – a three-dimensional technique to produce transmissions at the company's Kokomo, Indiana, plant. The new 3-D modeling technology will allow the company to save money by cutting engineering costs. Currently, the company is spending $1.3 billion to develop eight-speed and nine-speed transmissions, and thanks to this latest technology, engineering costs for these two transmissions have been cut from 4% to 3%.
The 3-D technology allows employees to see all aspects of a plant when planning pre-production, allowing them to consider all machines, employees and ultimately the third dimension, which before had to be imagined. The greater imaging gives pre-production planners a better view of the entire plant and tests how systems will work together before ever putting the actual system into production.
Brian Harlow stated that the company can now, “Address issues before they ever become a problem on the plant floor,” saving the company time, money and employee injuries.
The company plans to employ the technology at its other engine production plants in Mexico and the United States.
